  SatS review on Cinescape

From Richard: Cinescape has put up a wonderful review of "The Searcher and the Sword", for all you who are interested. Cinescape is one of the (if not THE) best review sites on the web, covering all aspects of popular culture. What is most pleasing about reviewer Tony Whitt's "thumbs up" assessment, is that it so completely "gets it". Not a lifelong Elfquest reader, Whitt still contributes a point of view - about the tone of the story and the very method of its telling - that made Wendy and me pump air and say "Yes!" We hope you enjoy the review as much as we did.

Also, Cinescape has a wonderful 2-part Interview with Wendy and Richard online for the world to partake of. Check it out in "The Pinis - Mightier Than the Sword" Part One and Part Two.

Now's the Big Announcement! If you haven't yet noticed the blinking buttons on the Elfquest.com home page, then go right here and see what all the blinking is about! We think this news is, ahem, super, man!

Dateline March 4, 2003... tick... tock... tick... tock...
So when's the Big Announcement? If you were one of the many folks who participated in the worldwide Elfquest anniversary chat last Friday, February 28, you "heard" the word that there would be a major news item regarding Elfquest either yesterday or today. Everything's in place for it.

Almost. For the past two days there have been major telephone problems at a large and prestigious company with whom we have been talking, and that has gummed up the works for a day or two. The minute we have the OK, we'll not only share the news here, but point you to a couple of other sites where you will find even more!

Dateline February 25, 2003
Last minute addition to the February 28 online festivities. When we recorded the second "Metaphysics of Elfquest" interview on web radio WXBH there were some technical difficulties that caused the audio quality to be less than desired. As a result, we're going to give it another go (as if the anniversary plate wasn't already full enough) on Friday, February 28, at 9:00 am PST (noon EST, 5:00 pm GMT). To listen live and to call in (see the January 26 announcement below for details) just tune your web player to WXBH and participate in "The Story as Mentor."

Dateline February 19, 2003
The Elfquest 25th Anniversary celebrations are starting. In just 9 days it will be Elfquest's 25th birthday - on February 28, 1978, the first and only issue of Fantasy Quarterly was published. To kick off the anniversary year, we're holding a world-wide, day-long (with breaks!) online chat with everyone from around the world who wants to participate.

Click here for details, and we'll "see" you there!

Dateline January 26, 2003
Elfquest interview to air again. The follow-up to the Metaphysics of Elfquest web/radio interview has been rescheduled after a blizzard forced postponement of the original broadcast over three weeks ago.

At 12 o'clock noon (Eastern time) on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 you can tune your web browser/media player to The Crystal Palace on WXBH radio (1190 on the AM dial if you're in the Schoharie County, New York listening area) and hear the creators of Elfquest in a telephone interview with host Corbie Mitleid on the Metaphysics of Elfquest, part 2: Stories as Mentors.

This time, though, you'll be able to do more than listen - you'll be able to call in with your questions. Since this is the first time this is being tried, there are some rules. One, do not call in before the show starts. You will not be put on hold, your call will simply not go through. Two, questions must stick to the topic - which is how stories affect our lives and help us grow. Questions about the Elfquest movie, toys, future publishing plans, etc. will not be taken.

There are two phone numbers for you to call when the time for questions is announced: (518) 234-3400 or (888) 254-9924. We look forward to fielding your questions so starting thinking about how favorite stories (Elfquest included) have played a part in your life!

Dateline January 14, 2003
Are you ready to be pun-ished?. Years ago, Warp Graphics partnered with Piers Anthony, author of the well-known Xanth novels, to bring to graphic novel form the magical story of a real-life elf named Jenny. The illustrated adaptation of the 13th entry in the Xanth series, Isle of View, was published in 1990 and quickly sold out.

At long last, the long out-of-print tale will be presented, in installments, here on www.elfquest.com. You can find the opening pages right here. New pages will be added regularly until the entire publication is up and online.

Dateline January 4, 2003
Snowstorm clobbers upstate New York - WXBH Elfquest show postponed. At this moment many of you are attempting to tune your web media players to WXBH radio to catch the "Metaphysics of Elfquest, part 2" announced a few days ago. The taping of the telephone interview with Wendy and Richard Pini was supposed to take place now, but we have had word from the station that the blizzard that hit all of upstate New York yesterday and today has taken out their power and internet cable.

The interview/broadcast will be rescheduled, but we have no date to announce at this time. Keep checking back here, or make sure you're getting the Elfquest e-newsletter, to find out the new date and time.

Dateline January 1, 2003
Back by popular demand! (I've always wanted to say that.) So many people tuned into the Metaphysics of Elfquest web/radio interview that Wendy and Richard Pini have been asked to do a follow-up.

At 2 o'clock pm (Eastern time) on Saturday, January 4, 2003 you can tune your web browser/media player to The Crystal Palace on WXBH radio (1190 on the AM dial if you're in the Schoharie County, New York listening area) and hear the creators of Elfquest in a telephone interview with host Corbie Mitleid on the Metaphysics of Elfquest, part 2: Stories as Mentors.

NOTE! Some people have gone to the WXBH website and seen what appears to be information that contradicts this announcement. The information on the WXBH website is tentative and will be corrected. The show will be recorded and broadcast at 2 o'clock pm Eastern time on Saturday, January 4. It will be rebroadcast at 1 o'clock pm Eastern time, Sunday, March 2.
