Funny Figures Contest

Warp's 2001 holiday greeting card. Used with permission.

If you received the Pinis’ holiday card in 2001, you saw some fun poked at Picknose (or perhaps at trolls in general). Picknose couldn’t be bothered to pose for such a thing, so his action-figure likeness stood in.

Since then, we at Sendings have been thinking. (And that’s been a lot of thinking, considering that it’s already holiday season 2002.) We’ve been thinking, “You know, the first thing we did when we pulled these figures out of their boxes was try to put Leetah’s shawl over Picknose’s arms and balance Petalwing on Tyldak’s finless head.”

Well, that was pretty amusing. Then we thought, maybe some of you came up with something that was actually funny to do with the figures! And we’d sure like to see your funny action-figure scenes. So…we decided to have a Funny Figures Contest.

Now for the good stuff. There will be a GRAND PRIZE awarded to the funniest figure scenes (as judged by Sendings’ staff and funny man Richard Pini himself!). We can’t say quite what the Grand Prize is yet, but we’re pretty sure it will have something to do with original art by an Elfquest artist. We’ll have it settled by Issue #18, so watch for more information next spring!

"Hmmm...is blue a good winter color on me? Or perhaps festive red..."

See entries on the Funny Figures Entries page!

And now, how to enter. Here’s what you do.
1. Use at least one Elfquest action figure, in whole or in part, in your scene, as well as anything else you need (background, props).
2. Take a picture of your scene, digitally or with film.
3. Add thought/speech/send bubbles or a caption if desired, directly on the picture or on a separate sheet of paper or whatever works for you. Or just let the image stand for itself!
4. Send prints and paper to:
Sendings, c/o Dixie McCartney
4070 Liberty Rd. S. #86
Salem, OR 97302

Send digital entries (as JPEGs, as large as they come off of your camera or scanner please, but under 3 megabytes) to sendings_staff@yahoo.com. Either way, include your name, address, and caption or bubble information.

Deadline for the contest will be announced in Issue #18 and will probably be in summer of 2003.
