These are real good, Ice Bird. I especially like Lady Nefertiti (almost High One-ish she is) and Wayna (WaveDancer!). Very Happy

Have to admit though the six-pack those ladies are carrying creep me out a little. Don't know why, but showing that much muscle on a woman always does.

Thanks for the quick reply Reyes.. Very Happy
About the sixpacks.. well, it's not like every woman in my story has it, Bellatrix is a great warrior and she works out a lot Laughing no, she doesn't but you get my point?
Kallisto is a fighter all way through and she'll get through hard trials. After a certain issue in her life, she finds the need to be strong enough to take care of herself (aka. *BIG* no need of a husband)

Any other reviewers???

Hey Icebird! Beautiful stuff here! I would love a chance to color Lady Nefrititi! (All others welcome too of course! It might take me a bit, so I don't want to hog all the fun!) Razz Just let me know the colors and such! And if you need any other help coloring, I'll be glad to lend a hand!

Is is your own fantasy world, or something based in history?

Is there a background that explains stuff like Kallisto and Icarus having names from Greek myth, and Rowena having an English name, even though (from what I see) they're from the same culture?

Kallisto, Icarus and Nefertiti are names that are strongly charged with myth and history, do you want people to think of the most famous bearers of the names?

I like the pictures, though it seems that your story is fairly strong on female characters, unless there are characters that you haven't drawn. I know that I tend to try to consciously balance the genders of my characters. Well, I tried in the completed novel. The new one is strongly feminine in cast. I guess it's an outgrowth of being female myself.

There doesn't seem to be much variety in the body types, but again, that might be purposeful. All the females seem to be fairly Dewshine-ish in form and Bellatrix, at least, might be better served with a more stocky Kahvi-ish figure.

But they're your characters and they are marvalously drawn.

Joselle: Thanks sweetie, I'll Pm you with the colours..

Anke: Yes, it's my very own self-made-up story.. All names has a meaning, but it's not from one particular language.. it's from everywhere..

Bellatrix: Means "Female Warrior" in Latin
Kallisto: Means "Most Beautiful" in Greek (How did you know, Anke?)
Icarus: Means "Follower" in Greek
Nerfertiti: Means "The Beautiful One Has Come" in Egyptian
Rowena: Means "Fame & Joy" (latinized form of Germanic name)
Zoe: Means "Life" in Greek
Wayna: Means "Young" in Quechua

To Everyone: If you are interested i can post first chapter here when I'm done, then I can get reviews and critism at the same time.. a little smart that is!

Ahh. Cool.

Speaking from experience, it's not easy choosing character names based solely on their meaning. I've done it, but I went out of my way to avoid names that had strong historical significance to avoid any potential conflict between impressions.

For instance . . .

Emrys Dillion - big, green-skinned, warrior type kinda like the Gargoyles on Disney, at least in attitude. He's got a strong paladin-ish streak and an even stronger feminine side. Emrys is a form of Ambrose, Immortal or Eternal. Dillion (and the associated Dillon) means Faithful. So his name roughly translates into the title of the book, Ever Faithful. Though he's not the only one who can be described with those words.

Kaylie (I think that's how I spelled it) - Rosebud in Greek. She's roughly based off the Dryad idea with a strong Greek influence, though I didn't find out the meaning until *after* I had named the character.

Burhardt (one of the baddies) - Castle strong in German, or something like that. One of those guys in power who thinks he's got impenetrable defenses.

Mataria - Enduring Melody in a language of my own creation. Of all things, a Dragon. And a female one at that.

Basically, I went through and made sure that all the names meant something appropriate, or at least were chosen for a reason. And then, of course, the dragon had to go and make puns about the whole thing.

"Harm not this rosebud, castle-strong though you be. The Ever Faithful will protect her. The Ever Faithful will destroy you."

Krwordgazer beta-read the book and seemed to enjoy the heck out of it. *grin* Still looking for a publisher, though.

Yes, that's exactly what caught my eye.

Your own made-up world, your own, made-up cultures, and they have names from languages from earth. How does that make sense?

There are two Sirens, presumably the same culture, and one has a Greek name, and one an American name, with the whole Mediterranean and the whole Atlantic between them.

Icarus is probably one of the best known mythical characters, his is not commonly used as a normal name in English (the way, for example, George is), so most people will think of the guy who burned his wings by flying too close to the sun when they hear it, rather than your brand new character.

Nefertiti is the second most famous ancient Egyptian queen.

Kallisto is another figure from Greek mythology, one of the women Zeus seduced, and she was turned into a bear and later turned into the constellation Ursa Maior. (And a character from Xena.)

Well, it's your story, of course, but I'd suggest to make up names from scratch - for each culture/language a rule of the thumb which sounds are common, and then juggling syllables until you like the sound of a name.
Or you could chose one real language for each culture to pick names from - that would give it more consistency than just going by meaning and ignoring the language.

Better change it then.. I'll be back!

*hugs*

Only change it if works for you. Smile

This (comparatively) old grump here has been working on and off on on a fantasy world, including 2 languages, for 5 years, and has hardly started writing yet because it must first all "make sense" Wink

Only 15?????

Dang! You're doing good. At that age I was still making up names like Armedie and Armelaia and Joness. *shudders to remember the book she wrote at 15. It was good at the time, but now . . .*

Oh joy, Joy! Be my guest! Anyone in particular you wanna colour??

To Anke and Mrs. Grizzly: Actually I have worried a little from time to time about the name thing... but I have started changing it now, and it makes a little more sense now than before and I can still keep Kallisto as Kallisto!! That's the best of it!

***Icebird*** (who is really glad that she came here first instead of embarrasing herself in front of the publishers)
