Hidden Years # 9 "The Enemy's Face"
The Sun Village: There was an eclipse when Rayek was born to Jarrah and Ingen, giving hope. His parents always toiled. When he returned with dead lizards they were proud that he did it out of hunger. He moved on to rodents. One bit him and he froze it with his eyes. He has power like Savah. On his tenth year he'd moved on to greater challenges. He killed a tusk-hog but jackals wanted the kill. He escaped wounded. Toorah used salves and stitches but there would be permanent damage. He swore to rid the mountains of them. An image of Savah appears saying not to use his power for vengeance. He becomes her pupil. His levitation abilities grew daily. Suddenly, Toorah and Anatim recognized. Two years later Leetah was born. The Feast of Flood and Flower was celebrated. Six years later Rayek knew they'd be lifemates. Leetah hugged him, healing his arm. He told Leetah that the elves can die if the hunter and healer don't look after them. Rumbling from the volcano scares the zwoots into the village where they cause damage. Leetah fears not being in control. Ten years later: All were welcome in Leetah's hut. Rayek said she must save something special for him. He felt she belonged to him and led her into the mountains. She showed him what she never showed any before. He tried to force recognition and scared her away. Rayek headed to the mountain and returned with zwoots days later. One shrugged off the spell and kicked Thiro. Leetah swore she'd never be caught unaware again. At night Rayek found his dagger gone. He ran to Leetah's hut and found she stabbed herself. She faces the darkness and conquers it. She healed herself and said love can also devour. She seemed older and would always remain just out of reach. He would and will follow her with his hand outstretched.
