Pool has a wolf-friend but not Sust. Stub-tail is now very large. Sust asks his father Pike if Stub-tail. He says tuft-cats are different, not as loyal. Krim wants to give it a try. Stub-tail just doesn't listen to commands. After a month Sust is able to ride him. Stubtail mauls a rabbit before told to. It's no use. Krim is angry that Sust is shamed. She angers Stubtail and gets clawed. She thinks they should kill him. Sust runs crying. Ember says Stubtail was fine before, let him go back to his own rules. Sust goes to Stubtail. Pike says he can keep him. There were other elves with no wolf-friend. Sust tells Pool that some don't get a wolf-friend until they're hunters, like Thicket, Spineleaf, and Bole. Scouter wonders if this means Sust is Skot's. Pike says whatever he was, is, or will be, he's ours.
