Elfquest Timeline

8 YEARS AFTER REAPPEARANCE
Leetah's Song (Elfquest2 # 32)

Elfquest2 # 32
Leetah's family is back together. Ember will return to Howling Rock. Suntop will learn more about his magic. Savah and Leetah, Leetah hopes she's up to raising a human. She thinks back to the day Cutter raided the village. It was two eights and two years ago for her, much longer for him. She watches the twins with him. If he had been awake the whole time, he wouldn't be the same. She's glad he'd mortal. Ember's rough and ready, she lives in the now. Suntop's mystical and contemplative. She grew in understanding as they grew inside her. She became protective, but the Wolfriders' children belong to the tribe. Cutter said to be open and sharing was better for them. He encouraged rough and adventurous ways in Ember and was closer to her. Suntop preferred stories of the High Ones and magic. They're alike and different in many ways. In the womb Ember demanded her mother let her be a full-blooded Wolfrider. Leetah sang to her unborn cubs:

This is a song
just we three may sing
your father can't be
here to share.

'Twould be so
unkind upon him to spring
the truth I'm not sure
he can bear.

But how can
I shield him, girl
unborn? You ask
to be mortal
as he.

To fall to time's
scythe like ripened corn,
defies all
that makes sense
to me.

Daughter,
be wise... your path
wisely choose

My child,
oh, my child...
know what
you'll lose!

Forever we
live. Yours, too,
is that right.

Your song's
without end, lest
you choose
the night.

Though winds of change
blow across our brow,
elves' beauty they can't
wear away.

Like the
desert's stones,
we 'bide here now,
as in this world's
earliest day.

Your howl...
It resounds
within my womb!
My love won't shut
out your great need

No matter
what fears of
mine might loom,
recognition - now you -
I'll heed.

I've walked
the path unto death's dark
door and knocked, though
no threshold
did cross.

For you I
must - and for my Tam
more - somehow embrace
death, or be lost.

Your father's
soul is so wild and free
less his drop, though, of
wolfling blood --

-- He'd not be
the better half of me.
I pay dearly to love
and be loved.

Children, you
know. Your path you
now choose.

Help me
accept, twins wiser
than I,

daughter,
but, daughter...
I fear to lose!

Closer to
truth. She'll be
mortal. Why?

Suntop: Mother, there's
no beginning, no end.
She'll follow the way
unafraid

Life be her hunt,
death someday her friend,
according to how this
world's made.

Ember: However long
my day in the sun,
I'll run with the wolves,
then lie down.

What I truly am,
just can't be undone.
Bones crumble, but I'll
be around!

Leetah: Then love's forever,
though flesh-forms fade.
Cublings mine, what different
fates yours!

The pact with
mother-healer's been made
I honor your separate natures.

Son, the
star home's radiant light
within your frame eternal glows.
Blood of High Ones your right,
and so unto you, now, it goes.

Blood of
this world, daughter, you shall
fearsome flame to ember turn.
Therefore, each day lived is crucial.
So burn bright, young chieftess!
Burn!

Listen, twins,
and mind your mother.
Distance must not harm
your bond.

Always be there
for each other...
'til death parts you... and beyond.

Leetah must learn a new level of acceptance, humans barely live longer than the blink of an eye. Savah says to look inside, part of Shuna is elfin in nature. They land at Howling Rock. Leetah holds Ember and Suntop as cublings once more. Cutter and the others stand back.

Though our elf race great wonders may do,
we can't foresee what will befall.

Out of my hands, your life's up to you.
With good grace we'll endure it all.

Listen, twins, and mind your mother.
Distance must not harm your bond.

Always be there for each other
'til death parts you... and beyond.
