Blood of Ten Chiefs # 10 "The Broken Circle" Part 1
The High Ones arrived in a sphere. The stars were all wrong. The planet pulled them down. Timmain made a message sphere to let others know they were here. It would orbit until their departure. 10,000 years later: Skywise watches the stars with Foxfur. A star falls. It lands nearby and glows. Bearclaw is throwing stones and drinking with Picknose. At the holt the Wolfriders are hit with pain. Joyleaf senses Bearclaw in pain too. They all feel a buzzing. Bearclaw is thrown out of the caves. Skywise is sleeping. Rain says it may be part of the healing process. Dewshine falls asleep too. Skywise mumbles something about a circle. He dreams of the High Ones leaving their planet for overpopulation. The last nine left when their sun was dying. They formed a circle and flew through space. The burrowers broke the circle. Skywise awakes. He hears singing but the words are on the tip of his tongue, like an invitation. A party of Bearclaw, Scouter, Nightfall, Treestump, and Joyleaf will seek it out. Skywise, tired of being treated as a cub, follows with Cutter. Soon Blackfell appears without the scouting party. The wolves won't go any further. They find the five in a crater and they look dead.

The five are actually sleeping. Light comes from a hole at the bottom. They go closer but Cutter falls asleep. Skywise finds a glowing ball at the bottom. Touching it doesn't hurt. Is it a star? It sings. Can only he hear it? Dewshine wakes up. She dreamed that she flew through the sky. She transformed and became more than Wolfrider. Many voices were singing and she was chosen to sing with them. Skywise finds a dent in the sphere. Inside, it's soft and sticky. It pulls his hand in and he pulls free. It hovers down to the ground and sends to him. He can't understand the words. An image of a female elf appears before him. He asks who she is but she fades away. Skywise howls to the pack and they pass it on. He can still hear the music. He puts his hand in it again and sees images. It circled the world for eons until it struck an asteroid and crashed. He sees the High Ones and their journey to the World of Two Moons. It hurts. Soon it's over. It glows and sends to him. It knows his soul name. It's too bright and loud. He smashes it. He's sorry, but he had to do it. The Wolfriders awake. He says it was beautiful but no one was strong enough to hear it. 12 days later he watches the sky. Cutter isn't impressed with the stars. Skywise says someday he'll see them up close.
