What do I say? It's very late at night, Sunday night, and thanks to our "guardian angel of code" (what - you think I could do this myself??) we have the Scroll of Colors back.
(Edit: actually, it didn't happen until this morning, Monday. I wrote this post in a fit of optimism, a bit too early.)
That's the good news. The not so good news is that we had to resurrect it from a backup that is from April of 2008, so we've lost almost a year's worth of posts. This grieves me more than I can say, and I'm certain it strikes to the heart of everyone who posted stories or artwork or comments or life-events or anything else between then and now. I'm particularly bummed that the entire "Thunder and Skyfire" topic got nuked.
But we have the Scroll, and I have much faith and great optimism that people will plant new seeds of discussions, ask questions, and rev things back up.
Can what happened last Wednesday happen again? It's not impossible. We're watching every possible avenue of attack that we know of, to try to avoid it. That's all we can say right now, and hope it's all we need to say.
The Scroll is back - enjoy and spread the word to everyone you know! Shade and sweet water.

By the way, I can't tell you what a thrill it is to be able to go back into the Scroll and to see those little orange flags that denote new entries in a given topic or thread!

By the way, you all might want to consider changing your password for login here on the Scroll. I don't know what information the hacker made off with, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Adding to that:
I've had a couple of requests from people who can't log in. If you changed your password after April 2008, the backup file only remembers what your password was as of that date, and won't have a record of your new password. So if you remember what the older password was, use that to log in, then go to your profile and change to a new password. If you don't remember, just send me an email at rpini @ elfquest.com and be sure to put the word "yggdrasil" in the subject line. (Be sure to spell that word correctly.) I'll reset your password for you.

And once again, it's back. Hopefully, better able to fend off the kind of attack that brought it down twice before. I believe in my heart of hearts this is not anything personal, but only a ruthless, automated, systematic predation on any and all sites that might have weaknesses. We've taken steps to eliminate those, and will keep taking steps.

As long as the message gets through, that's what matters!

Wish I knew. Meanwhile, the timeline helps to at least stay organized.

Time for the Trolls to take over!
Glad you were able to save some of the data! Can you get it set or have someone pull a monthly backup so that the most you risk is 30-31 days worth?
