Ok. I saw James Cameron's Elfquest, I mean Avatar, this last weekend and was blown away by the shear scale and depth of the culter of the aliens, their bleif's, the way they walk, the culter, the way the people interacted. It was a familar story, I have seen it before, but I love it and I think what made this stand out as a excellent movie is the detail you put into this picture. I love that everything was thought of, the way they eat, how they kill, how they talk to eachother even. It is what I wish the Elfquest movie was going to be like. The sad thing is, I don't think they will. WETA is the company that did the special effects and the art direction and the people who took the time to go into the detail of the culture.
Hell, the movie could've been great as a trillogy... and maybe Elfquest could push for that... make the first 2 books in the first movie, the third book a second movie, pull a babd guys are winning ending like in Empire Strike's Back and then book 4 in the final movie. I also think that we as the fans shouldn't know anything AT ALL about the movie. Just know it is going on. I will be happy with everything we get. Just to see the movie poster and see it on the big screen will be amazing and I will cry from joy, I know it.

Finally watched Avatar last night (at least the first 2/3 before I got too tired) and I just have to say I wasn't overly impressed. Granted, I was watching in 2D on a small screen, so that probably makes a difference.
It didn't in any way make me think of Elfquest.
The running through the phosphorescent forest, lighting up where their feet touch; the female spiritual leader and the younger female lead, destined to take her place; the head warrior romantic rival; the bull-dozers and the home tree that goes down in flames dropping ashes everywhere; the betrayal when it's revealed the outsider knew the destruction was coming; the interconnectedness of all living things; even the plants that retract when touched...it is so totally Ferngully revamped and amped-up for the 21st century.

Saying there are obstacles will get you nowhere; do what you can at the time.
Admittedly the story is predictable but the graphics are incredibly well made. I've told my friends that Elfquest will be like Avatar but with an new and original storyline
:D
