Favorite part of the story?

[b:84cd480da6]A.[/b:84cd480da6] My favorite moment in the first four books (which is what we're drawing upon for the first film) would have to be the ending of Book Three.  The Frozen Mountain Trolls have ambushed the Wolfriders (and Gliders, of course) in a snowy pass.  Outnumbered and surrounded, the Wolfriders fight ferociously.  One-Eye falls.  Cutter has been run through and lies at death's door, unconscious in the snow.  Then, suddenly, out of the white mist, ride the Go-Backs.  I remember reading this when I was 11 and being utterly riveted by the action [b:84cd480da6]and[/b:84cd480da6] torn at having to wait months (MONTHS!) until I could get my hands on Book Four to discover Cutter's fate and the identity of these new mysterious elves.  Absolutely thrilling and first-class story-telling.

In terms of my favorite character, that's such a tough one.  They're all great.  Who doesn't love Cutter?  His sense of honor, his loyalty, his deep curiosity.  Treestump is definitely a favorite of mine as well, as is Nightfall.  But, when push comes to shove, there's really only one elf for me: Strongbow.  I'm a sucker for an archer.  Always have been, always will be.  I'll give you three guesses as to who my favorite character in The Lord of the Rings is...

Ahh, what bliss. This is my favorite scene as well! I also went through a very similar experience with my first read...but for me it was when Strongbow (also my favorite male character outside of Skywise) was trapped by Winnowill in the cage. I had to wait 6 months until Christmas when my mother bought me the rest of the series for a present!! It was extremely painful.

And I'm going to go out on a limb and say your favorite character is Aragorn! Not hard to guess!

I think Rawson is referring to Legolas, since he is the consummate archer in the LOTR film series.

You had to wait months for Book Four?

You mean you guys had to wait months in between the books like we had to wait for the original issues?

Cuz it was like that for us for EVERY issue. LOL. MONTHS until we could find out what happened, but for some reason I thought that all the books had been published at the same time, since all the issues had been out for a while already.

So like they actually put out each book one by one?

The ending of each one was agonizing. Literally.

And the internet didn't even EXIST then - so we were all alone in our anguish and craving - not like now when you can so easily hook up with other fans and talk and share fanart and fanfiction.
