After the movie comes out, will it still be mom and pop?

One thing that I have always enjoyed about EQ, is the personal touch that is given to the fans. I have even had the privilege of chatting casually with Richard Pini on a yahoo chat.
The question I have to ask is when the movie comes out, and (of course) is a success, what will happen to that personal touch?

The fan base will grow, and so will the duties of dear Elfmom and Elfpop. Thus creating less time to read all those letters and such that they see to personally.

What are some theories/ worries on this subject?
"...I don't care, I'm still free.

You can't take the sky from me..."
Hopefully the fans will like it and not complain. Critics will say so-so things about the movie while fans say things otherwise. If chosen with a director who knows about EQ all too well and casts the right people. The questions will be "Who will play Cutter?" "Who will play Skywise?" and "Who will play Ravek?"

Those are questions I occasionally ask myself now and then hmhmhm

I write for fun, not to showoff. It wouldn't be fun that way

I worry about this too. Things like this are always such a trade-off.

On the one hand, works like this attract such a specific, loyal fanbase. There IS that sense of intimacy--not just between the artist and the reader, but between fans. A big movie production WILL kill that. It's not really an if, and, or but. Even though the Pinis will keep putting out the same caring messages, it'll be sort of like the difference between going to church and getting a newsletter from the Vatican. (Heh.) The fanbase will be saturated with people who only love the work within the shallow confines of celebritist hyperculture--or, you know, people who just happen to like short people with pointy ears.

On the other hand, the trade-off is that EQ--by sheer force of mass publicity--will reach those other niche people scattered about who truly need to be reached by this art: who were meant for it, who will be touched and transformed by it. Also, the artists get to have the unparalleled pleasure of seeing their (darn near) lifelong vision realized in... let's face it, the ultimate format. We're kind of at that place, these days, when wonderful things that, till now, had been locked inside people's minds, can actually take form. We have the technology. We can make blue kitty people.

I'm sure Elfmom and Elfpop have deeply considered all of this--for years. And I've got to say, I would come to the same conclusion. Even though it stings from this side of the fence, I'm prepared to trade in what ElfQuest has been to me for so long for the pleasure of knowing that it will reach so many people; the pleasure of knowing what a dream come true this is for the artists; and, well, the pleasure of seeing the thing IN A MOVIE EEE.

Honestly, the only major "ugh" I'm saddling up for is the Twilight fans I'll be sitting next to in the movie theater, who are going to be FLOODING the internets with EQ fandom that's rooted in nothing more than, "Skywise is SO totally hot."

...I mean, don't get me wrong. Skywise IS so totally hot. I'm just... saying.
I've wondered this, too. It won't be the same if it reaches the level of success they and we all hope for. It makes me sad, but what will be will be.

Treedream your not the only one who thinks that skywise is hot, he just is !!!Luvlove

Tavie that was exactly what I wanted to say, I so agree with you

It might be that more creative people will be involved in Elfquest, and that "Mom and Pop" will have the time and funding to create other things, even non-Elfquest projects. I wouldn't mind that at all.
