This discussion is over a technical subject having to do with Internet communication. IMHO it is getting much too heated and personal.
Regardless of what has, or hasn't, been discussed before, by whom, however many times, I still stand by one assertion: As fans, we are consumers. Aside from entertainment and creativity, this website is a means of communication between a business and its customers.
Crucent, again, I value your input. I lack the gift of making character judgments of people on the other side of the planet, based upon Internet posts, but I don't find anything inappropriate in what you have posted so far.
If I understand you correctly, your concern isn't that you feel you are not getting enough news about Elfquest in general, or the movie project in particular. (I know, Mrs. English major is dabbling in double negatives here... ) The issue seems to be that what little relevant communication you get is being posted elsewhere first, or perhaps more frequently, before it is announced on this website. Am I right?
(Aside, I am not familiar with the "Wendy on Facebook" site, although I seem to be able to access WP's "Masque" website and forum on the unfiltered computers. I avoid pulling up the actual webcomic because it is clearly marked as adult content, and anyone can see the monitor.)
Embala (whose avatar I find charming), you mention your preference not to use Facebook, and says "it feels weird to 'live in the home of ElfQuest' and strain my ears to catch some rumor from the far away market place, where the interesting stories are told." So this is not an isolated issue.
Crucent, if you haven't already, I still think it would be a good idea to contact the website administration directly with your concern. Meanwhile, I am going to pursure an idea that I've mulled over this week. See you guys in the "Thunder and Skyfire" section.

O_o It's not green lighted yet?
Huh.
How far did they got on the old movie before it disappeared?

Trollbabe yes you are correct, that is my main issue.
To women, hell hath no fury.

Crucent, I hope you are still with us. Over the last week I thought of possible solutions to this situation.
One would be to have social media-affiliated members volunteer to post any news and information that shows up on social media, on a regular basis. The Facebook member should either post direct links to content outside of Facebook, or copy and paste any lnew information that is only on Facebook. This would be particularly useful to people whose computers don't load social media websites efficiently.
Regarding the Elfquest movie, I propose a discussion about how we, as worldwide fans, can get the movie project going. In other words, how do we make Elfquest a priority with Warner executives?

I am a very upset member of this site.
I am even more upset, because I strongly and definitely HATE FB, and I LOVE these Forums of ours..
..and I REMEMBER what happened to our dear Forums in the past..
..and I'm an IT consultant, and I see that net security is clearly STILL neglected, in here.

There is one reason as to why. It's cause I joined this site january last year in hopes that i'd be able to get first-hand info about the LONG awaited EQ movie, since I knew this was Wendy and Richards site.
I have MANY more reasons to join your rant, like:
. fandom was initially and for looong a VERY important part of WaRP's concerns
. we ALL made this site here a GREAT place between 2004 and 2006..
..and yet neither Elfpop or Elfmom have SEEMED to ACTUALLY take MOST of our discussions into consideration, all along.

Fast forward till today, I feel ( and i may be wrong here) that there has been ridiculously little info on the movie on this site, heck I've learned more from following Wendy on Facebook then here, wich I find extremely odd, since I thought (and others with me) that this was THE go-to site for anything EQ.
You're not the only one.
Last info I have on the movie is WB killed the project..
..invoking the "too much like 'The Hobbit'" "reason".

Instead the last time I made a thread about it I got a very polite reply from Richard, that I felt, really didn't help at all.
Not normal, but usual. He IS polite.

And just as a by-line, someone posted somewhere in this forum about how it would be nice if we had Wendy visit here more, to wich she said something along the lines that " this place does so well without my help" (if memory serves) to wich I can only say, I am sorry Wendy, but I think you were incorrect.
And I side with you, on this.
Crucent said...
This site, since it is made by you guys for us, we would actually enjoy seeing you and Richard be more active in here.
Personally, it's not for emotional reasons that I'd like the authors to PARTICIPATE MORE here..
..but because these forums HAVE BEEN DECIDING, and FAR MORE THAN ANY FACEBOOK PAGE could and would,
of both information ( Wendy wondered why so many weren't even aware she IS working on 'Final Quest'..! )
and interest, among us past, present and possibly future Elf-fans.
We AREN'T so many, around.
Believing there are actually 5220 members in here would be a GRAVE mistake.

Not everybody has Facebook, and pardon me, but making an official site for what is your "baby" then hardly be on it, even if you are both in the midst of making a movie I find frankly rude to your fans.
Frankly, you take it too emotionally, but I admit I'm an old-timer who witnessed FAR worse before.
I guess it's not really rudeness, in fact..
..but more Elfpop and Elfmom being rather unaware of some things.
For instance, from MANY friends I once presented Elfquest to and who read it and appreciated it..
..I often received, recently, this reaction: "But they STILL produce Elfquest, now!?"
Like, in their heads, Elfquest is all dead since loooong.
And what happened repetitively to our forums here has had the effects of a cold shower to MANY.
Crucent said...
So, since clearly this is not the site to be at in hopes of getting any EQ movie news, I will be deleting my account here as of now.
Pity but it's YOUR account. YOUR decision. Do as you please.
Life has had HARD ways of teaching me that change happens only through FIGHT,
and after you've pointed as precisely as possible what is wrong and explored some possibilities to get some progress.
Even better when this process is SHARED, with clear rules of sharing..
..and when the concerned and informed ones can VOTE on the most important decisions.
Even if WaRP DO have, of course, the final say.
So I'm neither fleeing the site, nor abandoning my elf-friends, nor simply waiting for progresses in here.
Instead, I'll try my best to make them HAPPENING, with the possible help of some friends.
Crucent said...
Please; treat your fans better.
Seconded.
I'll simply add: please keep cool, dear friend, and reconsider.
You sound determined enough to provide great help to us all..
..in fighting for getting ourselves a better site.

I know there's a lot of ideas here that have already been discussed to death, so I don't want to re-hash it all here, but in reading this over what strikes me - and what has been the most bewildering to me personally, putting my own warm, fuzzy feelings for this site aside - is what Trollbabe said about the commercial aspects of this site.
What it comes down to is Elfquest is a product and we are consumers. So what I don't understand is why the collective WARP entity would choose to keep pissing off their most devoted customers in favor of a large group of people who, as far as anyone knows, have done nothing more than click a "like" button.
A lot of marketing campaigns take the opposite approach, trying to build up a fan base, then building through word-of-mouth. They already have a fan base, and do nothing to cultivate it.
I also personally don't care if Richard or Wendy don't visit this site, as I have fun interacting with the people who are here, but I do wish that if they aren't going to be participating, that they would stop "upgrading" and making it so darn difficult for those of us who like what we have here.

Exactly my point...
I'm not necessarily saying the WARP is concerned about making money, but are concerned with getting the biggest audience possible - they've stated that many times - they want the whole world to want the story.
And here we are - a group of people saying "Yes! We love your story, we want more!" And it feels like they are saying "Yeah, but you guys just aren't good enough." It feels a lot like being dropped by a friend for some group of friends that's cooler and more fashionable.
To me, it feels like, if this is really a labor of love, they would do it and not care how many other people like it, not be begging for FB "likes".
EDITED: Thinking about this while getting my laundry sorted, I actually feel bad for WARP. They thought they'd make a website that would be great, and everyone would come together on it. Instead, they got a piece of crap website, and drove a lot of their most ardent fans off. I really can't blame them if their attention shifted to FB in response to this mess.
It doesn't make me feel less discarded, though.
