What do you guys think is in the drink Winnowill gives them?

Seriously - beer has some qualities ... minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Of course winnowill's brow would be something more specified effects. Paralyzing the body but keeping the mind on full alert - narrowed on a special task though. Best you ask a drug specialst.

Last not least ... the stasis could be self induced as well. a form of trance to focus completely on the task. and the potion is actually only for nutrition.

And could a healer reverse the effect, or might it be out of their field?
A good healer could so it for sure. They are both physical and psychical healers - think of Leetah's attempt to heal Strongbow. Psychical healing seems to affort a good deal of cooperation of the patient, tho. And the potion ... should be like drug withdrawal.

Besides this I think that the time needed for it depends very much on the degree of mental activity during the catatony. There's a difference between Egg and the others.
Egg was creative, with mentally widespread activities. He was not simply shaping a complicated egg ... he was weaving in past and future. Not only a rockshaper, but a "timekeeper" and foreteller. And he seems he got "back to normal2 comparably quick.
The others seem to be focussed on simply one task - not without challenges, but very restricted. They developed a tunnel vision. Even after a healing it should take some time to take part in "daily life" again.

Door is hardly a good example. He was catatonic - he was awakened brutally - he probably realized the death of oll the other Gliders - he found himself among HUMANS! - and without ANY contact to other elves.
When there was contact at all during the millennia it would have been sending ... and now - NOTHING. No wonder he stayed in a sort of coma for so long.

You are right. It is not comparable. I brought up Strongbow simply to illustrate that healers deal both with physical and mental states of illness.

The potion Winnowill offered has supported the catatonic state of the Gliders for sure - like I said it's probably nutrition and some kind of drugs.

I doubt that Winnowill forced the "functional" shapers into their task. Without doubt (for me) they were willing to do it, drawing pride and satisfaction of their dut
Same here. =)

Getting the mind back focussed on daily needs would be the challenging, time-consuming part of the healing.
