Eeeee!
Haven't seen this posted yet (though I'm a tad hyper, so I may just have missed it), about the announcement of Wendy Pini's new series:

<quote:755dbfef2e>And, of course, we announced Wendy Pini's brand-new super smexy series, a futuristic take on "Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allen Poe. We'll be putting more info about it on our website in the near future! In the meanwhile, here's a peek at the free poster we're handing out at New York Comic-Con.</quote:755dbfef2e>
There's a picture of it behind that link!

I'm currently trying to use Google to find more blogs and the like that might mention their experiences at the convention.
Edit: Ooh, it's going to be a webcomic! Here's a link to an interview:
http://www.digitalstrips.com/2007/02/elfquest-creator-p ini-to-do-webcomic.html
Another site says: "will start in a few months time. Expect that mature sci-fi fantasy series with BL moments to run weekly (three-pages a week) and run for three 160page vols."
Ok, 'nuff with doing Richard's marketing for him. *cough* I go calm down now.

<quote:744e36ecd5>Wendy: No, we are going to invent ours from scratch and we are going to take a different approach from what’s up there so far and we are going to take the opportunity to add a little actual animation to it. What you’ll see is more an atmospheric type of approach. For example, if we have two characters in middle of a misty fog, you might see the fog billowing around them even though the characters stay still. We’ll use it very judiciously. It’s all about mood, especially in a story like this.</quote:744e36ecd5>

I'm really looking forward to this...
I just hope it doesn't mean EQ is coming to an end.

Well it appears that the m/m crowd will be happy with this series. Here's hoping us f/f fans will have something to smile about too.
Either way I'm intruiged by the notion of using 'Masque of the Red Death' as a basis for a comic. It's one of my more liked Poe stories. I always thought that it had a lot to say about the responsabilites of leadership.

This really doesn't look appealing to me, it's everything eq is not. Eq is earthy intertwined with some SciFi. The art is way too basic, you can see Wendy made it out of her head completely, the poses and faces look so plain:(
Never heard of Masque of the Red Death before, but I did some digging (prais be to the almighty Wikipedia) and found out that it was based on a work by Edgar Allen Poe. Intriguing. The poster looks gorgeous, methinks. Much better than the recent Elfquest stuff. Of course, one can hardly judge it either way simply based on a promotional poster. Someone holla when it gets online, eh? 8)

I wish the Pinis great success with this, but an "erotic gothic sci fi" series isn't going to be my personal cup of tea.
But I think the characters and settings look very interesting! :)

But myth, to some extent, is where you find it; and you know when you’ve found it by the way it goes right through you — like the first heavenly, shocking mouthful of ice cream on a hot day, or falling in love. ~ Robin McKinley
Can't quite picture yet where the atmosphere comes in; it looks much brighter, cleaner and more "orderly" than anything I'd ever associate with "Masque of the Red Death"... I'm not getting erotic, gothic, or sci-fi vibes from the banner(/poster) - rather, a Disney kinda cartooniness - but who knows where Wendy will be taking it
