Two-Edge and Venka

What two-edge mean exactly by name Venka 'My Maiden' ?

My dictionnary said Maiden = "young girl" or "first".

Soo did Two-Edge mean "My young girl" or this that a expression who mean another thing ???

Oh. I wondered too.
Strange expression for in our world it implies some belonging notion.
Maybe Two-Edge meant to use Venka (that he did),
just like Winnowill used her "pets" (slaves, in my eyes).
Maybe it was also a way for him not to feel TOO alone.
( That, I can understand too )

Shade and sweet water !
Sharing makes richer!
Well he has this strange obbesion with her, not? Because she has black hair...

I don't thick he says this because Two-Edge think she belongs to him. He just feel they are connected. Maybe even a sort of twisted kind of love or infactuation. A Robin Hood kind of Maiden perhaps?
"Maiden" is the standard word for female elves. Two-Edge only means that he thinks of Venka as connected to him in some way. Winnowill has it right (she does know her own son!) when she says he's smitten-- in love-- with Venka. "First" as a meaning for maiden is only used in such terms as "maiden voyage," meaning that a ship has never been at sea before (it's a "sea virgin," as it were). It doesn't mean here that Venka has been Two-Edge's first. I don't think it's at all implied that they have been lovers at any point during "Shards."

To me it's natural and poignant that Two-Edge should fall in love with Venka. She and Leetah are both set up as kind of "anti-Winnowills", if you see what I mean.
But myth, to some extent, is where you find it; and you know when you’ve found it by the way it goes right through you — like the first heavenly, shocking mouthful of ice cream on a hot day, or falling in love. ~ Robin McKinley
Right. It's a beauty and the beast set up.

I see. I was just wondering what's the real meaning of the term maiden, considerate my dictionnary have translate it in a way who doesn't fit with the history. But if Maiden mean Female elve, this is more clear

Well, as far as I know there isn't a dictionary word that means "female elf." But this is the word the Pinis adopted. "Maiden" for the females and "lad" for the males. Literally, the word "maiden" means virgin female-- a term that doesn't fit any EQ elf female over the age of 14! But if that's the word Wendy and Richard want to use, I'm not going to argue. :)

My dictionnary is a English/French one, soo it just give me :

Maiden : première (first), jeune fille (young girl)

probably if I have a English one, It will be said for the 'virgin female', but that's doesn't fit ether, like you said. Wink

I bet Two edge wanted her.... :?
I really, really liked how smitten Two-Edge was with Venka. Wouldn't it be nice if he could finally "have someone"? I would love for the two of them to hook up and if Venka isn't into the idea of shacking up with a half-troll - I would script a recognition in there! :D

Do you suppose Two-Edge can recognize? If he can send, I would think it possible. Would the Powers-That-Be consider Two-Edge good genetic material to pass on? If wolf blood can be introduced into the elf populous and slowly diluted through generations, why not troll blood? Could make for an interesting new tribe of hybrid elves. Interesting thoughts to chew on.

Just imagine! The child of Two-Edge and Venka. :P

I don't know that Two-Edge is ready for fatherhood. What he needs right now is a more emotional relationship, the healing of love and the fact that Venka is completely compassionate with him. She understands that it's not about what she needs at this time, but what he needs and what he needs is someone who is the antithesis of his mother to give him a chance to shape a self-identity separate from her.

I so agree. Babysteps! They are crucial for a good storyline when it comes to delicate tihngs like semi-bad characters. Two-Edge is such an interesting character. My fave issue ending EVER is his confusion at the end of #19 (Quest's End part 1.) It describes the mastermind slash madman so well. If they were to put him in the house with the white picket fence, the dog, the wife, the two kids and the volvo I would have to slap someone Grin

The tribe could be be Two-Edge, Venka, Mender and Trinket. Grin

I'd have to say that you'd have to fight Mender if you tried pairing him up with Trinket. He's been very kind and considerate of her teenybopper crush, but there are limits.

It's different with Two-Edge because, well, Two-Edge is different. He's more solid, characterizationally speaking, than the self-absorbed Trinket.

But I've been known to favor troll-sized men from time to time.

AAAGH!! I now have the image of "troll sized men" in my head.

Actually the Two-Edge and Venka thing has never worked well for me. It is kind of a "yuck" factor like Mender and Trinket. I would like to see Two-Edge with someone who is very effectionate, loving and finds him to be everything they need. Primarily because of his horrid upbringing by Winnie, I think he needs some true love.
