WB Picks a Producer

Wendy just announced on her Facebook page that Warner Bros has picked a producer for the Elfquest film: Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

He produced the Transformer movies and one of my favorites, the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's illustrated fantasy "comic" Stardust (along with many other big budget films). Check out more about him on IMDB.

This seems like great news in terms of Warner's commitment to the project.

Yay!!! A producer is chosen. *continues to clap and egg on production of movie*

Any idea yet what kind of rating they might be shooting for? *wince* I can't really envision randomly-cursing elves, but I think I saw somewhere a while back that the Pinis were hoping for a live birth scene at some point in the film... I'm not sure if that idea got left on the drawing room floor, though.
Good news. I'm just wondering why this announcement is being made first to Facebook fans, instead of the Scroll of Colors or Moviequest.

I don't think there's much more to it than the fact that Wendy is active on Facebook and not here on the Scroll outside her specific topics (Ask Elfmom, Elfmom's Sketchbook, etc). She's been dropping hints that they'd heard some good news on Facebook and for a while and when she got the green light to talk about it from Warner Bros. she posted it there.

Oh.

I was wondering how things were going to change on the Scroll of Colors, once Warner got going on the movie project. Is Warner tied in with Facebook? Are they trying to steer Elfquest fan traffic in that direction?

What??

I'm sorry, but that reply struck me as a little weird. I don't want to start anything, but I have to say that it's easy to forget that someone famous/your idol is still human.

Maybe Wendy feels less fan-pressure on Facebook? Maybe she just has more interest in it recently? Do I know? Do you know? No. Why? Neither of us (as far as I'm aware, anyway) is Wendy Pini.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Trollbabe, you've been around long enough to know that Wendy has never frequented the Scroll. Richard has taken on that duty and even that's limited. The fact that she has started to directly post here, in her specific threads, I think is only because she had a positive experience on the Masque of the Red Death forums, which is a much smaller forum. Wendy has embraced Facebook and is active there. I think that's all there is to it, no Warner Bros influence or conspiracy.

Puckernuts and trolldung, of course elves.wouldnt ever curse about anything!!!! Lol.
LOL, yeah, but let's just say I can't envision elves randomly using *human* curses!
You know, sometimes we get a little critical here, because we analyze the minutiae of Elfquest. It's like we all have Elfquest specific OCD or something!

I think Wendy didn't like reading the negative criticism. In the beginning, she dropped by to see what we were all saying.. but a lot of us, in addition to gushing over how much we love the finest comic ever created, also started hashing out our gripes with some of the artwork or story lines. I think it hurt her feelings... at least I remember Richard asking us to tone it down.

She did throw her heart and soul into making this comic series- and it showed! I don't think any of us would have wanted her feelings to be hurt in a million years. Personally, I didn't realize she would read what we said- I was just so happy to have people to talk about this with, I geeked out and certainly didn't edit my comments. (To Wendy, I would have said nothing but 'thank you for making this!) I think that was the case for most of us. But it makes a lot of sense that she would want to know what her fans think of her work. It also makes sense that, having invest yourself in your work, it's best sometimes to avoid reading too much regarding your fanbase's obsession over minutiae.

"Honey badger don't care..."
I can see that happening, although I thought that she was too occupied with other projects, appearances and various responsibilities involved in running a business. Until recently recently I assumed that most of the dialogue between Elfquest fans and creators was in this forum.

BTW I followed the GoComi site for Masque a while back. When it disappeared, I mistakenly assumed that the library's Internet filter was blocking it due to sexual imagery. I didn't think until now to look up MotRD for news about Elfquest.

I have mixed feelings about Facebook. Pull up "Facebook.com" on any of our library computers, if you ever want to know the e-mail addresses of the people who logged off the computer you are using! I might have mentioned something I heard recently at my primary job. Two supervisors were extensively judging a co-worker according to the content of his Facebook page. How much do I want strangers, alumni, employers and potential employers to know about me?

use a fake name. I do. :D
sure youre not suposed to but i never use my real name online. saves me a lot of trouble and so much hassel.
besides i go online for fun- I've never given out my FB name to a co-worker. that just asks for offline drama.
"Bob was griping about you on his FB page yesterday Bill, you better let him have it when he signs in today". Pfft. no thanks. XD

The Facebook log-in page seems to display people's e-mail addresses, rather than their real or fake names. I still don't trust it.
