I am a very upset member of this site.
There is one reason as to why. It's cause I joined this site january last year in hopes that i'd be able to get first-hand info about the LONG awaited EQ movie, since I knew this was Wendy and Richards site.
Fast forward till today, I feel ( and i may be wrong here) that there has been ridiculously little info on the movie on this site, heck I've learned more from following Wendy on Facebook then here, wich I find extremely odd, since I thought (and others with me) that this was THE go-to site for anything EQ. Instead the last time I made a thread about it I got a very polite reply from Richard, that I felt, really didn't help at all. And just as a by-line, someone posted somewhere in this forum about how it would be nice if we had Wendy visit here more, to wich she said something along the lines that " this place does so well without my help" (if memory serves) to wich I can only say, I am sorry Wendy, but I think you were incorrect. This site, since it is made by you guys for us, we would actually enjoy seeing you and Richard be more active in here. Not everybody has Facebook, and pardon me, but making an official site for what is your "baby" then hardly be on it, even if you are both in the midst of making a movie I find frankly rude to your fans.
So, since clearly this is not the site to be at in hopes of getting any EQ movie news, I will be deleting my account here as of now. Please; treat your fans better.

Yeah, I don't get where she's getting that notion from.

So sorry to hear so, Crucent
I wish I could do anything to hold you. Is there nothing to grab your interest besides the Movie informations?
I understand your frustration about the lack of up-to-date information here too well - I shared it too often
- when I never will learn what Richard's newest teaser is about
- when I catch a fragment of information through third-hand
- when a link another member was so kind to post ends at the FB login page once more
I don't want to join FB - I don't trust FB, it's much too irritating and I can handle only one social network and fan site at one time.
Agreed, that is MY problem!
And I figure that it could be Richard's and Wendy's problem as well - splitting the available time between several sites might leave not enough for each one to do it right.
But it feels weird to "live in the home of ElfQuest" and strain my ears to catch some rumor from the far away market place, where the interesting stories are told.
I love this place! I'm thankful for the possibility to discuss and play an talk to friends in peaceful surroundings. I highly appreciate the gift of the freely shared comics, the gorgeous art collections - old and new, and all the additional stuff. I love the company around, the friends that "live" here like me and those members who look in more or less often - just like real life allows. I appreciate the - in the very most cases - modest, sensible, sensitive and supporting interaction here, even without moderators to level heating discussions.
But I'm afraid like hell that it will become too calm, too silent when everyone who wishes brand new, first-handed information is sent elsewhere.
I hope your rant will not be the last thing we will see of you, Crucent. I hope that this site can offer more than just movie information for you, too. I hope you will stay nevertheless - being one of the visitors looking in and saying hello when time and moods lead you.
And in case nothing can change your mind - I beg you for High Ones' sake, Crucent - do not delete your account! As far as I have figured it will erase all your tracks, your posts and threads. Don't destroy what once was fun for you and others - and what can bring fun again for newbies or oldies alike by (re)discovering old posts, like your Diaries.
I missed you when your visits became rare, Crucent - I will miss you badly when you should leave.

I like Embala want nothing to do with FB, that is why I am with this site for the most part to get any new news on the EQ movie.
I just wish we had a little more news, because this is supposed to be the offical EQ website.
Just my opinion.

It's not just your opinion. I posted something to this effect in January, and received a chilly response.
(BTW, if I want to visit Facebook, all I have to do is pull up Facebook.com on any unfiltered library computer. Someone else will have signed off the computer, and left themselves logged on. Even if they were smart enough to log off, their e-mail address will be displayed on the log-in page until the library closes for the night.)

Time for the Trolls to take over!
also, I understand Mr. Thurber is a very busy man, but as far as I can tell he has only answered questions once, so, why even have that part of the forum there then?

I suppose it serves as an archive of his responses. Other WB people are now involved in the process, but they haven't been on this forum yet.
Please don't let this be your "final vent", Crucent. I enjoy discussing Elfquest with fans from around the world. As I can't afford the airfare to Norway, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, etc., this is my only option!

Time for the Trolls to take over!
Honestly... this doesn't seem like something to get upset about. The forum has been around a long time. It's been through some changes, and different formats- but we've been chatting on it a long time. It was, initially, just a place for us all to get tog and talk about Elfquest with fellow fans.
I remember being really surprised when Richard first showed up and started posting on it- we weren't expecting that. At least I wasn't. I think others weren't either- because we had been discussing aspects of Elfquest that bugged us. Basically, we were getting really critical of some of the later work... and Richard showed up and asked us to be sensitive to the fact that Wendy was reading what we were writing. At that point... we all started commenting on how much we liked Elfquest (Because, of course, we all really do. I mean, why nitpick something you don't absolutely love?)
After that, the Pinis started popping in more regularly. Richard replied to comments- Wendy started a thread in which she replied to questions. But then, i guess they got busy. It sort of petered out. I'm just glad to know now that they are busy -a. making a movie, and b. making a new comic book- and long, long last! I'm crossing my fingers for the move, but I don't need to be informed asap about every twist and turn of the process. The graphic novel- yeah, I'm chomping at the bit for that. Her spoilers are sooo vague! It's killing me! And I mean that in a good way.
And speaking of spoilers... any new information you see on facebook about the film or comic (www.facebook.com/elfquest btw- you can view it without being a member of facebook) is also on this forum. In fact, it's pretty much mentioned here as soon as it appears there.
As for why they use it, rather than frequent this place like before.. times change. I'm guessing Richard and Wendy use facebook the way the rest of us do. He's probably got it loaded onto his mobile phone and makes updates as he goes about his day. To view this site, I'm guessing he has to find himself a computer.. bust out the laptop.. locate him some wifi etc. She probably chats with or catches up with her friends when she logs on Facebook- in addition to checking up on the Elfquest stuff- thus killing two birds with one stone.
I get what you are saying, but I wouldn't take it all so personally.

Some topics are more important and sensitive to some of us, than to others. (I'm channelling my late father here... our loved ones never leave us, they become a part of us.) As an example, I kind of shrug off the whole gay-marriage topic, but I respect the fact that many people on this forum take it quite personally and seriously. They are entitled to their strong feelings.
I can also relate to the fact that connection issues may be different between countries, services and equipment. The slow connections I've had for the last week have been skipping characters when I type. If I were to have trouble with image-heavy or video-heavy websites, I would still get a faster response from Scroll of Colors pages. Facebook maybe harder to access for some SoC fans. For example, I can go to the link above, but if I try to expand the images, the computer freezes up. Also, I can only read the last of a long list of comments responding to something called "ATTENTION! #ELFQUEST NEEDS YOU!"
Furthermore, the correspondent with limited time online may not want to toggle between Facebook and Elfquest. I touched on privacy issues earlier, and won't get into that here.
My suggestion would be to gather your thoughts, write them down, read it through after a while, and then e-mail the administrator of this website. I can't guarantee when you will get a response, but it would be a more direct approach. As a krone-paying consumer of Elfquest products, you are certainly entitled to express your opinion.

Time for the Trolls to take over!
Crucent, your frustration is based on many false assumptions. You assumed that there would be frequent movie updates here. What information that is available has been shared. Warner Bros has licensed the film rights to Elfquest. Drafts of scripts have been developed. Warner Brothers has not yet greenlit production of an actual movie. They renewed their option last fall. That's it. And that's completely standard practice for development of a property into a film. There's nothing more to share. This has been said over and over and over again. If that's not enough for you, I don't know what to tell you.
You're assuming that because this site has fans as a primary audience that that somehow entitles you to direct contact with the creators. You are correct that this site is for the fans. It's for the fans to make it what it is. If you want more discussion here, make it happen. This site is incredibly rich with content, art and discussions. You're just coming off as a foot-stamping, entitled brat when you threaten to leave because you're not hearing enough from Wendy directly.
You're getting pissy because Wendy and Richard have a Facebook presence and you don't like Facebook. You're assuming that they are spiting the forum in favor of Facebook. Facebook and this forum are two vastly different experiences. If Wendy and Richard are active on Facebook, I don't see how that is taking away from your experience here on the forum. Ranting about it like this just makes you seem silly.
(Sidenote on Facebook: it's completely up to you how private and secure it is. If you don't want certain photos shown, don't post them. If you don't want your coworkers/employers/family to see your posts, don't make them friends. If you don't want your name out there, create a pseudonym. If you don't want your phone or email address made public, don't enter them into your profile. You can set your preferences for who can see what. If you don't want people to get your email address, make sure you log out when you use shared computers. Protecting your privacy is not difficult.)
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh - I'm not trying to be mean and have nothing against you personally, Crucent, I just get frustrated at rants like this. This thread is a great example of why I think Wendy is incredibly smart not to get sucked into too much direct contact with her fans. I just spent the last half and hour in frustration writing this. I'd rather Wendy spend her time shepherding the relationship with Warner Brothers and working on the Final Quest than getting embroiled in threads like this.

Thornbrake:
First of all thank you for feeling the need to set me straight in my own vent topic.
Clearly I cannot be allowed to post my mounting annoyance about something very EQ-related in the EQForums since it may offend persons like you who don't like to read about it, but still clearly feel the need to set me on the straight and narrow path when I do post a topic like this to inform W&R about MY thoughts and feelings.
One thing that was a surprise to me is the notion you had that you need to tell me anything about this at all. I didn't know you were involved in the movie or could talk for Wendy or Richard, but good for you if thats the case.
Also; I think you misunderstand, I have nothing against Facebook at all, but yes as this is the OFFICIAL EQ site I'd expect to get info about the official EQmovie from here and not FB (where I by the way am on, following Wendy and EQ) so I don't appreciate you lecturing me on it. However, I *do* get the feeling that they are ignoring this place a bit over Facebook and I don't really like it, since again; this is The Official EQ site.
Now if you don't like what I've posted (and that is entirely fine, you can feel whatever you want) wich is something thats been nagging me for months now, then don't read it at all if you don't like these kind of Vents.
And thank you for coming into this topic calling me a childish, silly foot-stomping brat. It certainly is a good thing your not trying to be mean or anything, otherwise I migh get both offended and hurt.
Please, don't bother responding at all if your gonna keep on insulting me for posting my feelings about this.
