Curiously, there was a series of X-Men comics that ran from 1999-2001. It featured stories and artwork by John Byrne, who inked EQ Hidden Years 9.5. I'll bet he was inspired to use the title from ElfQuest for the X-Men series, which detailed early, untold adventures of the X-Men.
