Declaw! *GROWL* ... I thought this would be another word for "cutting claws" before Sharptooth told me. I couldn't imagine that it means THAT. *GROWLS* May be some people should be declawed ... just a few "unnecessary" fingers might teach them >:/

Glad to here he has made it through this adventure without damage! *scratches and pets carefully*
I'm glad there are other people who share my thoughts on de-clawing. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who has this opinion, especially with the dirty looks I get when I admit I let my cat *gasp* outdoors!
O.o ... ?!? When there is the possibility and a comparably save environment letting the cat outdoors should be the natural choice. Some cats prefer to be a couch potatoe, though XD
Some people get all cranky about cats clawing their furniture and stuff ((then they shouldn't have a cat in my opinion -.-)) or.... a new baby is introduced into the house, so declawing is a safety measure for the baby's health. This was why Oscar was de-clawed.

Heck, even my grandmother had to go to the hospital from her cat scratching her once, and the bacteria from the claws did some bang up infection job in her bloodstream! O.o She was in the hospital for 4 days and it was from her own cat, which was ALWAYS an indoor cat O.o
And even Sharptooth said Oscar looked just Stubtail, but Oscar has the LONGEST tail I have ever seen on a cat O.o
He's doing so amazingly well now and he does this hilarious roll about on the bed and thumps his body down. Makes me laugh!
But I don't let any of my cats outside though, simply for the fact that I lost my dear Sabre to feline leukemia when he was only 2 years old because he slipped outside twice and got into a fight with a sick cat and came down with the disease. There's no prevention for it, nor is there a cure. It took him so fast, and I can't risk that happening to another beloved cat of mine =(
......and I'm rambling... I always do that when talking about my pets! ><

When I was a child, a wonderful, small yet much Maine-Coon like she-cat chose to live with us.. for seventeen years. She was splendid, long furred, light grey/white/black, a great huntress, proudly bringing mice and birds home, defending her territory, bringing her kitties one by one along a difficult path into our home, raising her one surviving kitty well, and loving us enough to wake me up by a lick on the nose in the morning and intense purrs. She was FROM the outside, living fully her true life of a she-cat, we didn't interfer, and fights and diseases and small damages inside the house were PART of it all. Thanks to her, I know a little of cats' ways and language. When we lost her, I bought a reproduction of the ring that the priests of Bast wore, silver, ornated, open, with a cat head, the left ear pierced with a golden ring. In memoriam. I still wear it.
Actually, I believe there is a vaccine for feline leukemia. It's also not necessarily fatal. My cat had it, but recovered and lived to be 20 years old.
And I'm not saying this as a reproach, or an argument to have cats outside or inside. In our neighborhood we have a busy highway, owls, hawks and coy...

My cat still has her claws, and I've got the scars to prove it! If they get too sharp for my delicate flesh, she gets a manicure. Otherwise we just make sure they're not getting too long or damaged from her running around and climbing up my curtains. I've been plucking her out of those damn things f...

I didn't know it was possible to get a cat de-clawed, tbh. Its all a bit horrific and just as bad as getting a dogs ears or tail clipped for appearances sake. Which I *think* got banned in this country years ago.
@jeb... the vet did tell us there was a vaccine at the time ((about 10 years ago or so)), but he said himself, they were hardly effective at all...that he didn't even recommend people wasting their money on it. But like I said, that was over 10 years ago, so maybe there is a more effective one now ...

As for how your cat recouperated... I've never heard of such a thing O.o The vet told me feline leukemia was what AIDS is to humans and that there is no known cure for it! Congrats on yours pulling through!!
